If my current driver's license is of the category to drive public vehicles and it is expired, but I currently do not drive this type of vehicle. What should I do?

Do private service licenses also have to be renewed?

No, because all of them are in force in accordance with the provisions of Decree 019 of 2012, which established that they were valid for 10 years from January 2012. Therefore, today those who carry licenses to drive a private vehicle are not obliged to renew it because they are in force.

Can I go to the SIMETRIC Examination Center to have my medical exams done, without having requested an appointment?

Can I carry out the license renewal process in another country?

No, at the moment this procedure can only be carried out in Colombia. The reason why it is not possible to do it abroad is because it requires the validation of the medical assessment in a Recognition Center authorized by the Ministry of Transport and its presence before the Transit Agency.

If I am an elderly person, do I also have to carry out this procedure?

Yes, you must complete the entire process. However, when you approach the Recognition Center and the Transit Agency, they will give you priority so that they can attend to you immediately. If you are between 60 and 80 years old, the validity of your driver's license will be 1 year to drive public service vehicles and 5 years to drive private service vehicles. If you are over the age of 80, you must renew your license every year in order to drive.
